Internet For Instruction

Social Action

Social Action projects are a great way to teach students quality values like: stewardship, leadership, and citizenship. With today's ramped utilization of the internet, constructing these types of projects is made much simplier.  By using the internet students can easily find a cause that they are interested in and contact the organization to find out ways they can help.

Listed below are links to Social Action projects that other classrooms have complete, which could help in interoducing this topic to your students:

Sope Creek

Having students complete social research projects is a great way for them to become more connected with their community.

Virtual Field Trips

Virtual or electronic field trips are a great way for students to experience things outside of the classroom, without the hassel of actually leaving the classroom.  While going on field trips can have many drawl backs, transportation, cost, loss of school time during travel, additional chaperons, etc.  However, these complications are eliminated by the opportunity provided by the interent for students to participate in virtual field trips.  There are virtual field trips for almost every content area, this includes zoos, museums, aquariums, art galleries, there are even virtual tours for other parts of the world!  These resources are a great way to expose students not only to classic pieces of art, but to different cultures and countries as well.

Below are several links for virtual field trips that could be used in the classroom:

Individual and Cooperative Research

Often one of the hardest things that older elementary students learn to do is complete research projects.  There are so many extra reqirements for research project than for other writing projects.  This includes teaching students how to serach for their specific topic.  In older days this was fairly easy becuase really all they needed to do was find the right letter Thesarus, and check out books from the library.  However, now with the endless research possibilites provided by the Internet, the reseach process has become more complicated.

Here is an article that gives a discription and overview of the 'Elementary' reasearch process:
